ACIDUM CARBOLICUM

Action of Medicine:

This remedy is indicated in cases where there are putrid discharges from any of the orifices of the body; when there is profound prostration, physical exhaustion and collapse. The surface of the body is bathed in a cold perspiration. It is of service in severe headache. This may be frontal or in the temples, but is attended with a sensation as of a band about the head. In cases of diphtheria it is indicated by the foul odour from the mouth; there is cough, fetid discharge from the nose, high fever, while the glands of the neck are swollen. In nausea and vomiting attending pregnancy, sea sickness, and nephritis, it is of service when the water is offensive; there is an uncomfortable feeling across the stomach and the ejected material is of a dark or black colour.
It is of service in fermentative dyspepsia when accompanied with bad breath and bad taste, also in dilatation of the stomach when much the same group of symptoms are present. It is often beneficial in nervous dyspepsia when of an intensely painful character. It has been of great service in the vomiting of drunkards when attended with violent frontal headache, great flatulent distension of the abdomen and eructations.
