Skin is the longest and the most exposed organ of our body; and tends to fall prey to different medical conditions. It serves to protect our bodies from harmful elements every day and is also a mirror to our inner health. Skin disorders vary greatly in symptoms and severity. They can be temporary or permanent and may be painless or painful. Some skin disorders have situational causes, while others may be genetic. While most skin disorders are minor, others can indicate a more serious issue.

Itching & Scaling skin is a symptom of many medical conditions, including Psoriasis, Contact dermatitis, Eczema, and fungal skin infections. Scaling skin may make a person self-conscious, particularly if it occurs on their hands, feet, face, or other visible areas. The scales can itch and redden, and the condition can affect their quality of life.

Treatments depend on the severity of the symptoms and the cause of skin disorders. People can treat mild forms of scaling skin & itching with ointments or creams.

Causes

• Bacteria trapped in skin pores and hair follicles
• Fungus, parasites, or microorganisms living on the skin
• A weakened immune system
• Contact with allergens, irritants, or another person’s infected skin
• Genetic factors
• Illnesses affecting the thyroid, immune system, kidneys, and other body systems

Symptoms

Skin conditions have a wide range of symptoms. Itchy skin can either affect small areas, such as the scalp, an arm or a leg or it can cover the whole body. It can occur without any other noticeable changes on the skin. Or it may come with:

• Inflamed skin, Scratch marks, red or white raised bumps, spots or blisters
• Dry, cracked or peeling skin
• Leathery, rough or scaly patches
• Itchy, raised welts that appear minutes to hours after skin contact with an allergen
• Scaly, silvery, sharply defined skin patches that flake off commonly located on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back
• Hair loss may also occur in the area with the rash
• Itchiness lasts a long time and can be intense. On rubbing or scratching the area, it gets itchier.

Management

• Wash hands with soap and warm water frequently.
• Avoid direct contact with the skin of other people who have an infection.
• Don’t share personal items like blankets, hairbrushes, or swimsuits.
• Sleep for at least 7 hours each night.
• Drink plenty of water.
• Avoid excessive physical or emotional stress.
• Eat a nutritious diet.

Action of Ingredients

Calendula officinalis: Calendula has antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that might make it useful in healing rashes & soothing eczema. It is also used to improve skin hydration and firmness.

Zincum oxydatum: Zinc oxide has astringent, soothing and protective properties and is used in topical preparations for Eczema, Dermatitis, slight excoriations, Injuries to the Nipple (Fissures and Cracks), Intertrigo, Pain, Pruritus, Sensitive Skin, Skin Irritation, Skin candida, Sunburn, Chafing, Damaged skin, Dry, cracked skin, Facial rash, etc.

Sulphanilamide: It is the best medicine to treat skin rash attended with itching. There may or may not be any eruptions on the skin. Itching and burning are marked on the rash. Its use can be done in scaly skin conditions like psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, etc.

Camphora: Skin, bluish and cold, with coldness of the body.  Skin sorely sensitive, even to the slightest touch. Erysipelatous inflammations. Dryness of the skin. Regularly used in balms and liniments to relieve pain or itchy skin.
