    Benign Hypertrophy of Prostate

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) also called as Benign enlargement of the Prostate is an increase in size of the Prostate. It involves hyperplasia of prostatic cells, resulting in the formation of large, fairly discrete nodules. The Prostate gland surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine passes out of the body and when the gland is enlarged, the nodules compress the urethral canal to cause partial or sometimes virtually complete, obstruction of the urethra. It leads to symptoms of urinary hesitancy, frequent urination, dysuria (painful urination), increased risk of urinary tract infections and urinary retention.
