This remedy is indicated in cases where there is some derangement of the urinary organs, that gives rise to symptoms of a uric acid diathesis. The urine is of a deep red colour, and has a strong urinous odour, like one of horse urine. The odour and colour of the urine is characteristic and is nearly always present when this remedy is indicated. It is an important remedy in cases of renal insufficiency, when there is a catarrhal condition of the pharynx; also cases of bacteriuria and oxaluria. The pulmonary derangement may assume the form of a bronchitis, asthma, or pneumonia, and may accompany a rheumatic fever. The extremities show gouty deposits about the joints, cracking, or a sense of dryness of the joints, and pain and tenderness in the tendon - Achilles of gouty or rheumatic origin. It is also a valuable remedy in catarrh of the bladder, cystitis, nocturnal enuresis when the urine is dark and has a strong odour.
